Some known problems and little quirks with the Outlander 800's
Keep in mind these are isolated instances!
- To start this page out we have a real, but preventable problem:
LaMigraTx was riding in some rocks and smashed the front of his frame bad. GET SKIDPLATES ON THEM GUYS!! Read more and discuss this in the FORUM

LaMigraTx's details on the frame issue HERE
- Speedometer display lense fogging: Some reports of this have been seen around the web. No solution to stop this.
- A report was seen about a clutch helix exploding. We do know they are plastic and they have used the same on the 400's. This is the first and only incident that we know of.
- No spare ignition key included with sale. The prices we've seen for the spare keys are from $23 to $35.
- No drain on the CVT housing. Bomb still hasn't put a drain on their clutch housings. Here is how to do it yourself. Clutch Drain Install
- A small but sometimes annoying problem is the sticking shifter. Rocking the machine usually solves this however. Also known as the "Outlander Hump".
- One report of the display showing the wrong gear and not letting the bike start, even with the brake depressed.
We recieved a 2nd report of this:
"Will second the problem with shifter in wrong gear not letting the
machine start. Displays an "E" or will not recognize neutral or park
only high low and reverse. Solved problem by turning the machine off for
several minutes and then going back and trying it again, problem
resolved.
Also had engine check light come on intermittently, again stop the
machine and leave off for several minutes problem corrects itself."
Yet another owner with display problems: Evidently the "L" and "P" are not displayed but everything engages OK.
- Oil leak on Outlandish's bike: "Found a puddle on the garage floor under the 800. Couldn't locate the source but the dealer found it to be the rear output shaft housing gasket"
"The bike is still at the dealer. They had to remove the whole engine to replace the seal. They did loan me a new 800 Max to use while this is being repaired"

"Got her back and so far all is good. They did replace the rear shaft seal and found no other leaks"
- One person has reported that his fuel line had a pin hole in it causing gas to spray all over the top of his motor. Dealer repaired it immediately
- A report of a clutch problem by XR4rd: "I took my new 800 out for the first ride the other day, man that thing is fun! As soon as I took it off the trailer the shifter was acting funny, It was difficult to get it into and out of gear. As the day went on this got worse, eventually I could not take it out of gear unless I shut off the engine. By the end of the day if it was in gear you could not come to a stop because if you did it would kill the engine. I took off the cover to the clutch and it seems as though the belt is too tight as it has alot of tension on it and continues to spin the transmission with the engine at an idle."
Any ideas? Discuss them in the forum.
- Numerous reports of too soft front shock absorber springs resulting in bottoming and less than advertised ground clearance are being reported in the forum. This only seems to be affecting the dual rate springs.
- BRP is very slow at getting their accessories shipped out. Aftermarket companies are going to benefit from this.
- Dirtbikemike is having speedo problems. It says 60 but it is standing still. His gas gauge screwed up on him too.
more coming!
